Akcija Zdruzhenska in colaboration with
Economic Policy Research Institute, EPRI was involved in the process of implementation
of the project Measuring the Costs of Domestic Violence Against Women in R.
Macedonia, financed by UNIFEM.
The main goal of the project is estimation of the approximate
costs of domestic violence against women in 2006, wherewith will be underlined
not only the social but also the financial dimension of this community problem.
The project is focused on measuring the costs of domestic violence paid by
community through the health, social, police and judicial system, as well the
costs of the victims and nongovernmental organizations that works on this
problem.
For successful implementation of the project Akcija
Zdruzenska conducted the following project activities:
(a) Consulting the field work instruments (questionnaires and
interview guidelines) with legal experts from the civil and criminal justice
systems in order to finalise them and to conform the terms with the legal
practice;
(b) Collecting information about the criminal and civil court
cases of domestic violence against women from the 33 courts in R. Macedonia (1
Supreme Court, 3 Appellant courts, 27 Basic courts, 2 civil basic courts). The
information will be collected through preliminary developed questionnaires sent
to the courts;
(c) Collecting information about criminal domestic violence
against women cases from the 25 prosecution offices in R. Macedonia. The
information will be collected through preliminary developed questionnaires sent
to the prosecution offices;
(d) Conducting:
4 in-depth interviews with judges that have been
deciding on DVAW cases (1 interview with civil court judge, 2
interviews with criminal court judges, 1 interview with appellant
court judge);
2 in-depth interviews with public prosecutors
that have been working on DVAW cases;
