The Association of Citizens Akcija Zdruzhenska from Skopje,
in cooperation with women activists from Bitola, Kumanovo, Veles, Sveti Nikole
and Debar, organized forums entitled: "Policies and Practices for Gender
Equality".
Mayors, members of the Council, as well as representatives of
relevant institutions and women’s NGOs took part in these forums, which are one
part of a series of meetings organized in the framework of the Program
Development and Support of the Initiatives of the Local Communities Activists.
The aim of the forums was to present the findings and
recommendations ensuing from the study Gender Equality and the Local
Self-Government. Moreover, the forums provided an opportunity for
discussions related to the possibilities for embedding the recommendations in
the local self-government policies and practices in line with the local
specificities of the municipalities.
These meetings presented a possibility for further building
of partnerships between the activists and the local self-government units aimed
at identifying the priorities for institutional solving of the problems arising
as a consequence of gender inequality in the community.
