The Association for advancement of gender equality Akcija Zdruzhenska – Skopje in partnership with the Institute for Community Development from Tetovo, on 01.28.2016 (Thursday) at Hotel Lirak Tetovo held a one-day training on “Monitoring the implementation of the legal obligations of local government to promote gender equality “. The training was conducted within the project “Equality and Gender Mainstreaming Across Broders ”, supported by the EU in the framework of the IPA instrument for cross – border cooperation between Macedonia and Kosovo.
The purpose of the training is to strengthen the capacity of local civil society organizations in terms of their role in tracking and monitoring the work of local authorities in the treatment of gender and gender issues, and strengthen their skills to represent the integration of a gender perspective in local policies and finding and proposing solutions aimed at improving the position of women.
The training was also aimed at promoting the local government for implementation of the Law on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men and their strengthening in order to meet the obligation of gender-conscious planning and action.
The training was also aimed at strengthening the cooperation between different actors and a common approach to the promotion of gender equality in the local community.
The training was attended by 22 representatives of civil society organizations and individual activists, who upgraded their knowledge on gender equality and women’s rights, as well as representatives of local authorities (coordinators for equal opportunities for women and men, members of the Committee on Equal opportunities for women and men other interested representatives) from the Polog region – Tetovo, Gostivar, Vrapciste, Mavrovo, Rostuše, Bogovinje, Brvenica, Zelino, Jegunovce and Tearce
