From 26 to 28 June this year, the traditional annual Women’s Circle Gathering was held in Struga. It is the most significant annual event organized by Action Zdrušenska, bringing together women from local Women’s Circles from different parts of the country.
During the three-day programme, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, learn from one another, and jointly reflect on the challenges women face in their communities, as well as possible ways to overcome them. The working part of the programme began with activities focused on getting to know one another and building trust, followed by creative workshops during which participants used drawing and embroidery on textile bags to convey strong messages about women’s solidarity, equality, and empowerment. At the end of the activity, the bags were exchanged among the participants as symbolic gifts and lasting mementos of the gathering, as well as reminders of the new friendships and shared values that connect them.
The programme also focused on workshops dedicated to recognizing gender stereotypes, prejudices, and unwritten rules that influence women’s everyday lives. Through discussions in small groups, participants analyzed their personal experiences, questioned social expectations, and discussed ways in which they can contribute to creating more inclusive and equitable local communities. The final day was dedicated to reflection and looking towards the future. The women summarized the lessons they had learned, shared the changes they recognized in themselves, in their local Circles, and in their communities, as well as their vision for the further development of the Women’s Circles. Through a joint discussion, the topics and priorities that will be the focus of future activities were defined.
The annual gathering once again confirmed that Women’s Circles are much more than a place for conversation. They are spaces where women are encouraged, connect, learn, create, and build networks of mutual support that contribute to positive change and greater participation of women in local communities. Action Zdrušenska remains committed to strengthening Women’s Circles as safe and inspiring spaces where every woman can recognize her own potential, strengthen her voice, and actively contribute to creating a fairer and more equal society.
