Women from Sveti Nikole demand to be heard where decisions are made

Women from Sveti Nikole and rural areas recently took part in a public debate where they discussed their needs, experiences and challenges, as well as opportunities for more active participation in local decision-making. In a discussion with representatives of the local government, it was emphasized that women’s participation should be a genuine part of local processes, rather than merely a formal opportunity.

The discussion focused on mechanisms through which citizens can participate in local decision-making – from timely information and consultations to direct involvement in setting local priorities and developing solutions. The women stressed the need for accessible and functional channels through which their proposals and needs can reach local institutions.

The discussion also highlighted the need for continuous dialogue between the local government and women from rural communities. As emphasized during the debate, their participation should not end with simply being asked for their opinion, but should enable them to have a real influence on the decisions and priorities that shape the future of their community.
